Paperback. Like New. Three generations of Smiths have grown up in Boston since Phillip and Leah had their adventure in FIRE BY NIGHT. Phillip became an apothecary as he had always dreamed. He married and had six children, one of whom was the grandfather of Beth and Will, the children you will meet in this book. While the Smith family is fictional, characters in this book such as Colonel Nicholson, Judge Sewall, and Governor Dudley are real. They made important decisions that affected the lives of the Boston colonists during Queen Anne's War. Judge Sewall wrote a diary that tells us a lot about life in Boston during this time. Boys and girls went to different schools, and boys usually left school and were apprenticed to a trade when they were about twelve years old. Judge Sewell's son actually started going to school when he was only two years and seven months old! While the Colonists fought Queen Anne's War in America, England was also fighting against France and Spain in Europe. This is why the queen did not send as many British troops to the colonies as they wanted.
